Since its launch in 2017, the government’s regional connectivity scheme (RCS), Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN), has achieved the milestone of 500 routes. Data from the Airport Authority of India indicates that 493 routes had operational flight services as of October 3, 2023. The recent additions, particularly in Southern India during the fifth phase of the scheme, have pushed the total to 500 routes. The scheme, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2017, aims to connect small and medium cities with major cities through affordable air services. The UDAN scheme has witnessed five rounds, with different routes awarded to various airlines in each round.
