India has revoked the licence of the Centre for Policy Research (CPR) to receive international funding, citing a violation of foreign contribution regulations. The interior ministry informed the Delhi High Court that CPR’s licence was canceled on January 10, approximately a year after it was initially suspended. CPR, a leading think tank focusing on policy research in India, asserts its “complete compliance” with the law and vows to seek remedies against the decision. The cancellation of licences for non-profit organizations under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) has become more prevalent in India since 2014, with the government tightening regulations on overseas donations.
