Andhra Pradesh ranked among the top 10 states in India for recording bird species during the Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC). With 321 species and 1,155 checklists submitted on eBird by birdwatchers, the state contributed significantly to the global bird counting exercise. Chittoor district led with 214 species, followed by East Godavari and West Godavari. Educational institutions like IISER Tirupati and Rishi Valley School recorded the most species on their campuses. The Vijayawada Nature Club documented the common buzzard for the first time in the city. The annual exercise helps scientists understand and protect birds globally.
