Greaves Electric Mobility, previously Ampere Electric Vehicles, has refunded approximately Rs 124 crore in subsidy it received under the FAME-II scheme. The company, accused of non-compliance with localisation mandates, stated that the refund is made in the interest of consumers and to avoid prolonged litigation. The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) had issued a show cause notice to seven electric two-wheeler makers, including Greaves, for violating the phased manufacturing programme guidelines. The government aims to encourage domestic value addition and adherence to FAME-II guidelines for boosting local manufacturing and electric vehicle adoption.
