Odisha has reported 96 suspected sunstroke deaths, with 54 occurring in the past 48 hours. Balangir district recorded 20 deaths, Sambalpur 15, and Jharsuguda and Subarnapur each reported six. The Special Relief Commissioner confirmed nine sunstroke deaths and ruled out sunstroke in six cases. Investigations are ongoing for 81 deaths. Amidst a severe heatwave affecting northern states, Odisha’s Chief Secretary P.K. Jena and Special Relief Commissioner Satyabrata Sahu instructed district collectors to enforce heatwave advisories and precautionary measures. The Special Relief Commissioner’s office is monitoring the situation continuously to ensure public safety.
