Intense monsoon rains in southern Myanmar have led to extensive flooding, displacing over 10,000 people and disrupting major rail lines. The Bago region experienced relentless rainfall, reaching its highest level in 59 years, resulting in severe flooding in low-lying areas of the capital, Bago township. Although there are no reported casualties, the flooding, measuring 7-8 feet in some areas, has forced thousands to abandon their homes. Relief efforts, including the establishment of 32 camps in Bago, are underway, providing shelter and essential supplies. Rail travel between major cities, including Yangon, has been hampered, with reports of flooded tracks and halted train services. Myanmar faces recurring weather challenges during the monsoon season, with this incident being the latest in a series of weather-related disasters this year.
