The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is eager to support Argentina, with the possibility of financing through its Resilience and Sustainability Trust (RST), according to IMF Chief Kristalina Georgieva. She described the recent virtual meeting with Argentina’s President-elect Javier Milei as “very constructive” and emphasized the importance of Argentina addressing macroeconomic imbalances. Georgieva expressed interest in discussing how Argentina could become less vulnerable to climate events. Argentina, facing severe economic challenges with inflation above 140%, could potentially tap into the RST, launched in 2022 to assist vulnerable middle-income and island countries. Preconditions include having an active IMF program, sustainable debt, and repayment capacity.
