Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar announced that the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) in Thiruvananthapuram is under active consideration as a potential site for the proposed Bharat Semiconductor Research Centre. The centre aims to emulate institutions like IMEC and MIT, fostering India’s semiconductor ecosystem. The move aligns with ISRO’s goal of achieving full indigenisation in space technology. The announcement was made during SemiconIndia 2024, jointly organized by ISRO and IIST.
