In a significant development for India’s semiconductor industry, the government has approved three projects, including a fab manufacturing unit by Tata Electronic Private Limited in partnership with Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp (PSMC). The fab will be based in Dholera, Gujarat, with an investment of Rs 91,000 crore, producing chips ranging from 28 nanometres to 90 nanometres. Additionally, Tata Group will establish a semiconductor packaging unit in Assam, investing Rs 27,000 crore. These initiatives aim to boost India’s semiconductor capabilities, aligning with a vision to become a major player in the global semiconductor value chain by 2029.
