India’s External Affairs Ministry has dismissed a report by The Washington Post alleging an Indian official’s involvement in a plot to eliminate Sikh separatist leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. The Ministry called the claims “unwarranted and unsubstantiated.” Responding to media queries, spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized an ongoing investigation into security concerns raised by the US government. Last November, US prosecutors charged Nikhil Gupta, an Indian national, with collaborating on the foiled assassination attempt. Pannun, wanted in India on terror charges, holds dual citizenship of the US and Canada. India initiated an inquiry committee to address the matter, recognizing its implications for national security.
