India has authorized the export of 2,000 tonnes of non-basmati white rice to Malawi and Zimbabwe through the National Cooperative Exports Limited (NCEL), as announced by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). Despite a ban on such exports since July 2023 to stabilize domestic supply, exceptions are made to fulfill food security requests from specific countries. Each nation will receive 1,000 tonnes of rice. NCEL, backed by prominent cooperatives like AMUL and NAFED, facilitates these exports, previously sanctioned for countries including Nepal, Malaysia, and the Philippines.
