In a historic maiden appearance at the Asian Games, the Indian women’s cricket team secured a gold medal by defeating Sri Lanka by 19 runs in a low-scoring final match in Hangzhou. India struggled to reach 116 for seven on a challenging pitch, with Smriti Mandhana (46) and Jemimah Rodrigues (42) as the top scorers. However, the 18-year-old rookie pacer Titas Sadhu emerged as the hero, picking up three crucial wickets in her first two overs, including that of Sri Lankan skipper Chamari Athapaththu. Titas’ spell, along with support from other bowlers, limited Sri Lanka to 97 for eight, securing India’s second gold at the Games.
