The Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) plans to commission a nuclear power reactor every year, according to Chairman B.C. Pathak. In an interview, Pathak highlighted the dual role of nuclear power in electricity generation and clean energy production, especially in the form of green hydrogen. He clarified that NPCIL is ready for both 700-MWe pressurized heavy water reactors (PHWRs) and smaller 220-MWe PHWRs, aiming for a fleet of reactors to meet India’s growing electricity demand. Pathak also discussed safety features in the 700-MWe reactors and the country’s commitment to a three-stage nuclear power program.
