Israeli Ambassador Naor Gilon flagged off the first batch of Indian construction workers bound for Israel on April 2, as part of a government-to-government arrangement to address labor shortages. The initiative follows Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s urgent request for workers in November 2023. Despite safety concerns highlighted by the Indian Embassy in Tel Aviv, workers will be dispatched almost daily over the next few weeks. The move, however, faces ethical scrutiny regarding potential displacement of Palestinian workers during the conflict. Approximately 10,000 workers, selected from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, are expected to travel to Israel, as per the presentation by the National Skill Development Council officials.
