An Indian-origin couple in the UK, Arti Dhir and Kavaljitsinh Raijada, has been sentenced to 33 years in prison each for exporting over half a tonne of cocaine to Australia, worth £57 million. The National Crime Agency (NCA) identified the couple, who were also accused of murdering their adopted son in India. The drugs were shipped in metal toolboxes, and the couple’s front company, Viefly Freight Services, was involved in the smuggling. The NCA plans to start Proceeds of Crime proceedings against them to confiscate their assets. The couple’s extradition to India for murder charges was previously denied in 2019.
