Indian refiners have reduced the use of crude oil vessels to transport refined fuels like diesel to key European markets in May. This shift comes after April’s near two-year high volumes, as rising inventories in the Antwerp-Rotterdam-Amsterdam region and shaky diesel price spreads deter large shipments westward. The move is expected to redirect diesel sales back to Asia, exacerbating the supply surplus in the region. Previously, traders had utilized Suezmax and Aframax tankers for diesel exports due to tight clean product tanker markets and weaker demand for dirty vessels.
