Balraj Panwar, a sepoy with the Indian Army, clinched an Olympic quota in single sculls at the Qualification Championships in South Korea. Despite narrowly missing bronze at the Asian Games, his perseverance paid off with a third-place finish in the 2000m race. Balraj, hailing from Karnal, overcame adversity and modest beginnings to excel in rowing, with support from the Rowing Federation of India (RFI) and his coach. His qualification brings hope for India’s rowing representation in Paris, supported by para-rowers securing a Paralympic quota and recent successes in the Asian Rowing Cup.
