India experienced a notable 22.24% increase in electronics exports, crossing the $20 billion mark within the first nine months of the financial year 2023-24. The surge was led by a substantial increase in smartphone shipments, particularly Apple’s iPhone. Mobile phone exports constituted 52% of total electronics exports, reaching $10.5 billion between April and December 2023. iPhones played a significant role, contributing 35% to total electronics exports and 70% to India’s overall mobile exports during this period. The growth is attributed to the smartphone production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme initiated by the government in 2021. The India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) predicts mobile phone exports to reach $14-15 billion by the fiscal year’s end, elevating electronics exports to the fourth position among India’s top export categories.
