Indonesia plans to impose safeguard duties of 100% to 200% on imports of items like footwear and ceramics to protect domestic industries. Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan announced that these duties, averaging over 100%, aim to prevent the collapse of local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). This move follows a reversed regulation from last year, initially meant to tighten monitoring of over 3,000 imported goods but criticized for disrupting the supply of essential imported materials. The duties will soon affect imports of footwear, clothing, textiles, cosmetics, and ceramics.
