Israel has a significant economic grip on Gaza and the West Bank, with over half of imports and over 80% of exports to and from the Palestinian territories being linked to Israel. More than 1.5 lakh Palestinians work in Israel or its settlements, contributing a quarter of the West Bank’s GDP. However, many face underemployment and inadequate pay, with 83% of Gaza workers earning less than the minimum wage in 2021. Israel also controls the supply of electricity, water, and fuel to the territories, impacting daily life. A war with Israel could leave Palestinians resource-deprived, increasing dependency on foreign aid, which has decreased in recent years.
