Japan achieved a historic milestone as its spacecraft, Smart Lander for Investigating Moon (SLIM), successfully made a soft landing on the lunar surface. The spacecraft, aiming for a pinpoint landing, encountered a solar panel failure, potentially shortening its activity on the moon. While confirmation of the precise landing is pending analysis, space officials believe the small rovers launched by SLIM are transmitting data. If confirmed, Japan becomes the fifth country to reach the moon, and the mission is viewed as crucial for advancing precision landing technology. Prime Minister Fumio Kishida expressed delight, and NASA Administrator Bill Nelson congratulated Japan on this achievement.
