On May 16, a Ranchi special court granted the Enforcement Directorate (ED) six days of custody for Jharkhand Minister Alamgir Alam in a money laundering case. The Rural Development Minister was arrested by the Central agency earlier in the week. The ED sought a 10-day remand, but the court approved six days. Alam’s arrest followed the seizure of over ₹36 crore from a flat linked to his Officer on Special Duty and domestic help. Allegations of commission payments in department tenders have surfaced, with further questioning expected. BJP’s Arun Singh demanded Alam’s removal from the Cabinet, citing rampant corruption in the state.
