Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar implored the Election Commission to direct the Centre to release ₹4,663 crore from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) and an additional ₹18,171 crore to address the severe drought gripping the state. Highlighting 224 out of 236 taluks affected by drought, Shivakumar referenced Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s acknowledgment of delay in relief due to the EC’s non-permission for a high-power committee meeting. He emphasized the state’s right to disaster relief funds, arguing against the misconception that EC permission is required. Karnataka has also turned to the Supreme Court for aid.
