The Madras High Court alerted the public about a rise in property fraud cases, cautioning against middlemen leasing properties with criminal intent. Justice A.D. Jagadish Chandira emphasized the need for public awareness to prevent such scams. The court, responding to a bail cancellation petition, directed the Director General of Police to take action against such fraudsters. The case involved a property owner leasing his house, only for the lessee to mortgage it illegally. Shockingly, data revealed numerous similar cases totaling over ₹65 crore, with victims falling prey to misrepresentation and fraud. The court highlighted the urgency to address this issue effectively and prevent further exploitation of property owners and buyers.
