The Maharashtra government has launched the ‘Adopt a School’ scheme, enabling individuals, organizations, or private enterprises holding SEBI registered Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) certificates to sponsor state government, Zilla Parishad, or municipal council-operated schools. Regardless of the medium of instruction, sponsors can append their chosen name to the school’s existing name for either a five or ten-year period. Notably, for schools situated in A and B category municipal corporations like the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation or Pune Municipal Corporation, sponsors must contribute either Rs 2 crore for five years or Rs 3 crore for ten years. These funds will be allocated for improving physical infrastructure, encompassing school building repairs, painting, restroom facilities, infrastructure development, and the acquisition of sports equipment. This initiative aligns with the objectives outlined in the National Education Policy 2020.
