The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has withdrawn its earlier advisory that required Internet intermediaries and platforms to obtain government approval before launching AI products. The initial advisory, issued on March 1, faced criticism for its stringent requirements, especially regarding generative AI models. Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar clarified that the advisory was intended for large platforms and did not apply to startups. The new advisory emphasizes labeling AI-generated content appropriately and ensuring that biases do not affect the electoral process. Platforms are also instructed to inform users about the consequences of dealing with unlawful information in their terms of service.
