The United Nations warns that Myanmar is on the brink of a deepening humanitarian crisis, worsened since the military coup nearly three years ago. The civilian population, now living in fear, has increased the number of people in need of humanitarian assistance to 18.6 million, one million more than the previous year and 19 times the 2020 figures. Children, in particular, are severely affected, with six million requiring assistance due to displacement, interrupted healthcare and education, food insecurity, malnutrition, and protection risks. The UN calls for urgent international support, seeking $994 million to aid 5.3 million identified as priorities in Myanmar in 2024.
