Counting began for Nagaland’s urban local body polls after a 20-year hiatus, with significant participation and some challenges. The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) secured Chiephobozou Town Council unopposed, reflecting broader trends. Voter turnout was robust at 82%, marking the first elections with 33% women’s reservation, following past objections. Despite 523 candidates from 11 parties, 64 were elected unopposed. However, boycotts in 14 bodies due to tribal objections highlighted regional tensions, notably by the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) seeking greater regional focus.
