In Nagaland, 669 candidates, including 238 females, initially filed nominations for municipal and town council elections across the state, including Eastern Nagaland. However, 79 candidates withdrew their nominations before the June 18 deadline set by the State Election Commission. Notable withdrawals included candidates from various town councils like Shamtor, Longleng, and Dimapur. These elections mark a significant event after 20 years, with Nagaland now implementing 33% reservation for women in urban local bodies. Despite calls for abstention from the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization (ENPO), 61 nominations were initially filed in ENPO areas.
