The National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) suggests boosting the reservation quota for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in public employment in Punjab and West Bengal. Currently, Punjab allocates 25% for Scheduled Castes and 12% for OBCs, totaling 37% reservation. The NCBC recommends increasing the OBC quota by 13%, adhering to the Supreme Court’s 50% reservation ceiling. West Bengal’s OBC categorization includes 35 new castes/communities. With 143 OBC communities listed in the state, adjustments aim to align with court directives.
