The National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management, Thanjavur (NIFTEM-T), in collaboration with the Association of Food Scientists and Technologists (India), hosted a national awareness program themed “Food Safety: Prepare for the Unexpected” for World Food Safety Day 2024. Asit Gopal from the Ministry of Food Processing Industries highlighted that contaminated food causes illness in 1 in 10 people globally, with children under 5 particularly vulnerable. The event emphasized collective responsibility in ensuring food safety, with talks on hygiene, food processing, and the importance of accurate labeling and consumer education.
