In Dubai, three rowers are training for a pioneering 1,500-kilometer Arctic voyage aimed at spotlighting marine pollution, particularly plastic waste. Toby Gregory, Andrew Savill, and Orlagh Dempsey will embark from Norway’s Tromso to Svalbard’s Longyearbyen, using an eight-meter boat powered by solar panels. Gregory, inspired by the Atlantic’s plastic-laden waters in 2023, founded The Plastic Pledge to educate on plastic disposal. Partnering with the UN Environment Programme Clean Seas initiative, their mission seeks to set records: the first three-person team to row the Arctic and Dempsey as the first woman to achieve this feat.
