The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the appointment of Gary Kirsten as head coach for ODIs and T20Is, while Jason Gillespie will take over the role for Test cricket. Former Pakistan all-rounder Azhar Mahmood was appointed as the assistant coach across formats. PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi emphasized the value foreign coaches bring to the team. Kirsten is set to begin coaching from Pakistan’s tour of England in May, followed by the T20 World Cup. The appointments come after Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the 50-over World Cup, leading to the overhaul of the coaching staff. Despite approaching other candidates, including Matthew Hayden and Shane Watson, PCB chose Kirsten and Gillespie for their coaching experience and expertise.
