The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has denied the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), backed by former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), eligibility for reserved seats. The ECP cited the party’s failure to meet the deadline for submitting nominee lists and its unconstitutional exclusion of non-Muslims from membership. The SIC’s plea for reserved seats for women and minorities, rejected by the ECP and upheld by the Peshawar High Court, has now been taken to the Supreme Court.
