In Odisha, individuals taking selfies or photographs with wild animals without prior permission may face arrest and up to seven years of imprisonment, according to the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) (Wildlife) Susanta Nanda. This directive follows concerns over individuals disturbing the natural life cycle of wildlife and violating the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. PCCF Nanda has instructed field staffers to arrest offenders and bring them to court. The letter emphasizes the importance of abiding by wildlife protection laws and obtaining permission from forest officials for photography purposes. Forest officials are also tasked with spreading awareness and providing helpline numbers to report wildlife-related violations.
