India’s leading gas importer, Petronet LNG, is expected to finalize a deal this month to extend its long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports from Qatar beyond 2028, according to India’s Oil Secretary. Petronet currently holds a 7.5-million metric ton per year (tpy) long-term LNG import agreement with Qatar. The deal, along with a 1 million tpy agreement held by its promoters Indian Oil Corp, Bharat Petroleum Corp, and GAIL (India) Ltd, is likely to be extended. Indian companies had until the end of 2023 to negotiate the renewal of these deals. Qatar, the world’s leading LNG exporter, is aiming to expand its liquefaction capacity and has been signing long-term deals with various global entities.
