Pakistan’s outgoing Interior Minister, Rana Sanaullah, has called for an investigation into the authenticity of a source document used in a U.S. media report claiming evidence of a U.S. conspiracy to topple Imran Khan’s government in 2022. The report, published by The Intercept, cited a “classified Pakistani government document” detailing a meeting between U.S. State Department officials and Pakistani envoy Asad Majeed Khan. The document allegedly suggested U.S. encouragement for the removal of Imran Khan. While The Intercept made efforts to authenticate the document, the U.S. State Department stated it couldn’t verify its authenticity. Imran Khan, currently in jail on corruption charges, has long alleged U.S. involvement in his government’s fall.
