Rashmi Ranjan Swain, the Special Director-General of Jammu & Kashmir CID, has been designated as the in-charge Director-General of Police (DGP) for the region. This appointment comes as the term of the incumbent DGP, Dilbag Singh, is set to end. Swain, a senior IPS officer of the 1991 batch, will assume the new role from November 1 while retaining his current position. Under Singh’s leadership, there was a notable decrease in street protests in the region following the changes to Jammu & Kashmir’s constitutional status in 2019. Swain, well-versed in J&K affairs, also leads the State Investigation Agency (SIA) targeting militants and their supporters.
