Ahead of the upcoming spectrum auction on June 6, Reliance Jio has submitted the highest earnest money deposit (EMD) of Rs 3,000 crore, surpassing competitors Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea (Vi). While Jio’s licenses don’t need renewal, Airtel and Vi need renewals in specific circles. The auction will offer Rs 96,317.65 crore worth of 5G airwaves across various bands. Despite not requiring license renewals, Jio is actively participating, signaling strategic interest. Analysts project the government may raise up to Rs 18,000 crore, around 19% of the total spectrum value. In the previous auction, the government garnered over Rs 1.5 lakh crore.
