The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has disqualified Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva from the 2022 Olympics due to a doping violation. The decision clears the way for the United States to be awarded the gold medal in the team event. Valieva’s doping case caused turmoil at the Beijing Games, and her positive test for a banned heart medicine was revealed hours after her star performance. The CAS upheld appeals from the World Anti-Doping Agency, ruling that Valieva be banned for four years until December 25, 2025. The International Olympic Committee is expected to reallocate the medals, making the U.S. team the new Olympic champions.
