The Election Commission of India has allocated the symbol of “man blowing turha (traditional trumpet)” to the Nationalist Congress Party-Sharadchandra Pawar faction for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. The party expressed pride in adopting the symbol, also known as ‘tutari’ in Marathi, often sounded to signify the arrival of important figures. The symbol holds historical significance, echoed through lines from the poem ‘Tutari’ by Kusumagraj. The NCP-Sharadchandra Pawar faction sees the turha as a representation of valor and envisions shaking Delhi’s throne under Sharadchandra Pawar’s leadership. The symbol was granted after the NCP split in July last year.
