Japan’s Sony has named Gaurav Banerjee, a top executive from Walt Disney, as the new chief executive for its India operations. Banerjee, who led content for Disney’s Hotstar and business for its Hindi TV channels, will take charge in two months. This appointment follows N.P. Singh’s decision to step down as Sony’s India head. Sony, which operates 26 TV channels and a streaming service in India, recently canceled a planned merger with Zee Entertainment. Meanwhile, Disney is seeking approval to merge its Indian media assets with those of Reliance Industries, aiming to become India’s largest entertainment company.
