Elon Musk’s Starlink is poised to receive a Global Mobile Personal Communication by Satellite (GMPCS) license from the Indian government, according to reports. Once granted, this license will make Starlink the third player in India’s satellite-based internet sector, alongside Bharti’s OneWeb and Reliance’s Jio Satellite. After securing the GMPCS license, Starlink will be eligible for spectrum allocation, enabling the commencement of satellite broadband services. SpaceX, the operator of Starlink, has reportedly fulfilled all regulatory requirements, including providing details on satellite locations, data transfer, and broadband service strategies. Formal clearances from the Department of Space, Department of Telecommunications, and the Home Ministry are anticipated by next month.
