A recent study examined how pigeons’ flight routes are influenced by social interactions, revealing that younger pigeons learn from older birds and also contribute to route efficiency over generations. Researchers found that while pigeons navigate using the sun and Earth’s magnetic field, these methods don’t always yield the most efficient paths. By comparing pigeon flight data with a computer model, they identified four key factors: direction to the goal, proximity to the other pigeon, remembered route, and general consistency.
