A study conducted by Citizen Consumer and Civic Action Group (CAG) as part of the Tamil Nadu Climate Change Mission highlights concerning gaps in climate literacy among the state’s youth. Out of 2,430 respondents from various educational backgrounds, 73.4% lacked a scientific understanding of climate change. Although 58.7% could link temperature change with climate change, 58.5% did not understand the difference between climate and weather. The study emphasizes the need to enhance climate education in schools and colleges, noting that college-level curriculum often lacks sufficient focus on climate-related topics. Recommendations include updating frameworks to cover mitigation strategies and international case studies comprehensively.
