The Tamil Nadu government has approved ₹1,229 crore for the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) for the fiscal year 2024-25. This includes ₹921 crore from the Central government (75% share for materials) and ₹307 crore from the State government (25% share). Earlier in the year, the Central Empowered Committee sanctioned “20 crore person days” for Tamil Nadu under the scheme. The Government of India also raised daily wages for MGNREGS workers by ₹25. Work under MGNREGS operates on a weekly basis, starting on Thursday and ending on Wednesday.
