Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced Tata Group’s substantial investment in a semiconductor fab in Gujarat at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit. The project, set to be a significant semiconductor chips manufacturing factory in Dholera, is awaiting Cabinet approvals. Tata Sons Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran revealed the imminent announcement of the semiconductor fab, slated to commence construction in 2024 pending a technical partner. Despite the government’s rejection of Vedanta Limited’s application, Vaishnaw confirmed Tata’s intent to collaborate with a technical partner. India’s $10 billion incentive for semiconductor manufacturing has attracted global players like Micron Technology and AMD, fostering collaborations with the US, Japan, and the European Union. Notably, Korean company Simmtech has also pledged a substantial investment in Gujarat’s semiconductor sector.
