Tata Group has revealed its intention to construct a semiconductor fabrication plant in Dholera, Gujarat, with operations set to commence in 2024. Tata Sons Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran announced the impending completion of negotiations at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit. This move positions Tata Group as the second Indian conglomerate expressing interest in the semiconductor sector, following Vedanta Group’s $10 billion PLI incentive application for chip manufacturing. Simmtech from South Korea and US chipmaker Micron also plan semiconductor-related facilities in Gujarat, with Micron being the first to receive incentives under the semiconductor incentive scheme, aiming to operationalize its memory assembly and test facility by early 2025.
