Indian tennis player Rohan Bopanna, on the verge of becoming the world number one in doubles, has been selected for the prestigious Padma Shri award by the Indian government. Bopanna, 43, is set to become the oldest world number one when the new rankings are issued. He has the opportunity to win his first men’s doubles major title in the Australian Open final. Veteran squash player Joshna Chinappa and five other athletes, including hockey player Harbinder Singh and para badminton coach Gaurav Khanna, have also been chosen for the Padma Shri.
