Chennai-based startup The ePlane Company, incubated at IIT Madras, aims to revolutionize urban mobility with its electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft. Led by Founder and CEO Satya Chakravarthy, the company plans to develop a certifiable prototype by March next year. Initially focusing on drones with 2-6 kg payload capacity, the company aims to commercialize them soon. Their vision is to address urban congestion by offering faster and more efficient travel solutions. Meanwhile, InterGlobe Enterprises and Archer Aviation also plan to introduce electric air taxi services in India by 2026, highlighting the growing interest in urban air mobility. Despite regulatory and safety challenges, eVTOLs are poised to transform urban transportation within the next decade.
